REVEREND DR SONNY RAJAMONEY



Sonny hails from Penang, West Malaysia, where he was born, grew up and schooled. He comes from a strong Anglican Church background and worshipped with the St Mark's Anglican Church, Butterworth, up until 1976.


Responding to the Call of God, whilst studying Law at the University of London in 1974, he rturned to Malaysia to prepare for the Ministry. In 1975, Sonny was sponsored by the Anglican Congregation at the RAAF Base in Butterworth to attend the Archbishop's Advisory Conference in Perth.


In 1976, Sonny commenced theological studies at Trinity Theological College, Singapore, when he joined the Methodist Church in Singapore and Malaysia.


Graduating with a Bachelor of Divinity (Hons) in 1980, he commenced his pastoral ministry at the Wesley Methodist Church in Butterworth, Kuala Lumpur and Seremban from 1980-1990. He is married to Stella and they have three adult married children and one granddaughter.


Responding to the "Abrahamic" Call to move, sonny and family emigrated to Australia on 23 March 1990, commencing ministry with the Uniting Church Murray Parish, Mandurah. In 1997, he started his second Ministerial placement at the Greenwood Uniting Church where he served ten years after which he served with the Duncraig Uniting Church until 2011.


In 2000, sonny completed his post-graduate doctoral studies in Ministry and Missiology at San Francisco Theological Seminary, where he taught a Frontier seminar for doctoral students in 2005. Among other places, he has also preached in Los Angeles, San Jose, New York, and Toronto.


Sonny ministered with the Trinity North Uniting Congregation, which includes three Worshipping Faith Communities - Greenwood, Duncraig, and Carine, until March 2016.
